So I put together a Costco shed today, with help from my dad. Part of our grand plan to outfit the new house with all the bling bling, you know. It’s a nice shed, but it was a pain in the ass to get set up. Actually, the shed itself wasn’t that bad, it’s all plastic and rubbermaid-type material. The worst part was setting up a “foundation” for the thing on a slightly-sloped part of the yard that backs up to the fenceline. We found some sturdy pallets in the dumpster across the street that fit the bill, after levelling them off with cinder bricks, flat stone and two-by-four shims.
Yeah, we did some dumpster diving. But it’s the big construction dumpster for the development we’re in, filled with lots of usable scrap wood and stuff! That makes it okay. :)

Yea, I’m so thrilled one of the first "things" you do to the house is half-assed and you just know that you’re not going to be thrilled when you’re going to have to rebuild the "foundation".
Your mom rolled her eyes as much as mine when we found out you dumpster dove. Remember when we were laughing, I had seriously said "at least he works for the company…he may get in "less" trouble for it", if you’re found out.
And please, do not complain (even if days or months or years go by) when you’ll need to build the foundation properly as I will remind you that I offered to get the concrete or rocks to help the dirt underneath errode slower.
It does look great though and i’m happy with the shed itself. 🙂
Hehe…Jon’s wife makes this entertaining.
I looked at that same shed at Costco yesterday. We’ve got a nice big shed, but it’s over-built — big, and built to home standards, meaning it weighs a LOT. And it needs to be moved, as it’s sitting right in a bad spot in our backyard, but it’s going to need a frickin’ crane to move.
Yeah, I can’t get *regular* hecklers. 🙂
It’s a good shed. But they only had 3 left when we bought it yesterday, so you might be out of luck by now.
Hmmm… interesting, we were at Costco the same day looking at the same shed…
Gotta keep him honest 😉
